One of the newest NFL franchises is the Baltimore Ravens, even if only by location and name. Art Modell, after spending much time focusing on laborious and tiresome debates with the NFL, moved the Ravens to Baltimore from Cleveland. When they first moved they played in Memorial Stadium, which is the same place the Colts played. After two years of regular play, their new stadium was complete, but the next decade brought a lot of change to the name.
The move to the stadium was supposed to motivate the team, which would — in turn — help them to play better. This; however, did not happen. Their next two years were just like the two years previous, unimpressive. After a 6-10 year, the team got a new head coach by the name of Brian Billick (who replaced Marchibroda). The season of 1999, their first year with Billick, had a rough start but ended on good terms. The Ravens had their best year yet with an 8-8 record at the end of ‘99.
Not even ten years later, the 2008 season, the Baltimore Ravens nearly made it to the Super Bowl. In a fight on home turf against the Jaguars, they won their spot in the AFC playoffs placement. An unfortunate turn of events allowed them to slip out of the running for the Super Bowl, but they made it farther than they ever had.
After a phenomenal season in 2008, the team has a new saying — “Play like a Raven”. This saying is spreading quickly, especially around home. Those who witnessed play during training of the 2009 summer will vouch for the fact that the team busted their humps. So not only was the team pumped to play, but they also had 26th pick in the draft, which helped them a lot. Michael Oher was predicted to see some good field time in the ‘09 season with the Ravens.
The Ravens are a new team as they are just starting their 12th season on the NFL. Regardless, after some hard work, they have made their way to some big games and attention. Everyone is excited about the 2010 season. The tickets will sell quick so be sure get your tickets as soon as they go on-sale!
